RAF SCAMPTON

Andrew & I have just returned from an excellent tour of RAF Scampton, home of the Red Arrows. We wanted to experience the tour at RAF Scampton so that we at Lincoln Town Houses, could offer and promote the tours through our web site and directly to our guests.
Formed in November 1916, under the name of Brattleby the Station has been at the forefront of Avaition Technology.
In May 1943 Wing Commander Guy GIbson led the attack against the Mohne and Eder Dams. This earned the Station its 3rd and best known Victoria Cross.
Guy Gibson's black labrador, Nigger, was tragically killed on the night of the Dambusters raid. His grave is at RAF Scampton!
Scampton catered for the Vulcan Bombers in the late fifties till the early eighties. In 1983 Scampton moved from Strike Command over to Support Command. The next decade was when it became base for the World Famous Red Arrows Aerobatics Team.
They remained at Scampton until 1995 when they were moved to RAF Cranwell.
A team from Vosper Thornycroft servicing the Tucano trainer, moved into Scampton and at the end of 2000 the Red Arrows returned.
We were privaledged to meet two of the Red Arrows yesterday after watching them both train for the RAF Waddington Air Show on the 2nd & 3rd July 2010.
The rest of the team are currently in Greece.
Bookings for a tour can be arranged through
Roger Crisp (Dep Curator RAF Scampton Museum) Tel:01522 500738/733029
The tour is approximately 2 hours long. Cameras are permitted with restrictions.
Try to book it when the Red Arrows are on base as the atmosphere is amazing, especially as they land and taxi past you!!
