The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Magnificent Second World War planes can occasionally be spotted in the skies above Lincolnshire - but have you seen them up close?
If not, why not make a note of two special open weekends when you can do just that!
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), based at RAF Coningsby, operates a Lancaster, five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, two Chipmunks and a Dakota.
Together, the planes, which perform regularly at airshows such as Waddington form a living tribute to all the RAF crew who gave their lives in the Second World War.
At the BBMF, Lincolnshire County Council runs a visitor centre featuring a permanent gallery, temporary exhibition space and shop.
To see the aircraft up close, visitors can also pay for a guided tour of the hangar where they are maintained by the RAF.
The BBMF is open Monday to Friday throughout the year (except bank holidays and Christmas), and on special summer open weekends, including Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July and Monday 29th August.
Opening times are 10am to 5pm
Hangar tours from 10.30am to 3.30pm

Grapevine Event at Lincoln Show Grou

Grapevine is an event voicing a strong proclamation that the Church is alive and thriving and seeking to have a growing influence for good in this nation.
Grapevine provides an opportunity for Christians from all backgrounds and denominations to gather to celebrate the Christian faith and for the Ground Level family of Churches to have an annual focus which assists in equipping each local Church for the great commission.
In this 30th year of Grapevine, we want to celebrate all the good things that God has done through the years. Three decades have been interlaced with surprising and unexpected meetings with God. These 'encounter' times have created great memories but have also positioned us for active involvement in the years ahead. As we move forward, the words of Moses have prophetic importance: "If Your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here".
We need the distinguishing mark of God's presence. Sometimes fire, sometimes wind and sometimes a still small voice. Often unexpected and always undeserved.
Let's press forward for more!

History Of Lincoln

Just wanted you to get the link to this short video about Lincoln and The Strait with a history of the many buildings that line Steep Hill!

The Lancaster Bomber

Special VIP days at East Kirkby are usually held on a Wednesday and are a whole day experience. The day starts at 9.30am with a briefing from either your pilot or/and a crew member and the day's co-ordinator. There are two tail down taxy runs on our VIP days one at 11am and the other at 1.30pm and places are limited to 18/20 people enjoying a taxy ride per VIP day. The 20 riders in the VIP party are divided into two groups with 10 on the 11am run and 10 on the 1.30pm run. The benefit of there being two taxy runs is that you ride on one and watch the other at close quarters. The taxy ride is completely unique and very different to the experience from outside the aircraft.

There is a lunch prepared especially for our VIP guests at 12 Noon. You can eat alongside the pilot and Lancaster ground crew providing you with another opportunity to ask them any technical questions and time to talk Lancasters! The VIP option offers you much longer inside the aircraft, boarding approx half an hour before your taxy run for your look around the first half of the aircraft, we also give you plenty of time after the run for you to complete your tour of the other half. All guests have the opportunity to sit in/visit each position throughout the aircraft whilst the aircraft is static and have the tour of the cockpit with the chance to sit in the pilot's seat. Whilst you are looking around the aircraft we have crew members on board to answer any questions you may have. Morning coffee, afternoon tea and homemade cake are also included on these days.

Guest option
There is also the chance for the person enjoying the taxy ride to bring a guest who gets the whole day, including a look inside the Lancaster and tour of the cockpit, but not the taxy ride for £70.00. The VIP day is run in a far more leisurely manner, providing you with time to absorb the airfield's history and sounds. Again all guests go home with a certificate signed by the pilot who has done the taxy run that day.

Price- £285.00 Places MUST be pre-booked!

Steam Punk Festival Lincoln 2011

THE VERY LATEST PLANS FOR 2011

Weekend at the Asylum 2011 will have a slightly different flavour. It is being developed into more of a Fringe style festival with options for you to buy tickets to just those features you wish to attend.

Friday and as usual the Steampunks will begin to gather around the Victoria during the afternoon. Control will open at 4pm and you will be able to claim your wristbands.

Friday night will see "Friday Night at the Asylum". (400 tickets) This is envisaged as a party night with up to four new bands showcasing their acts for the delights of the steampunk community. The Major will once again be hosting his celebrated Soiree. Music hall enters the 21st century. (120 tickets). The Victoria will be having an open access mini beer festival this evening too.

Saturday morning the Asylum will open its doors at 10.00 with exhibitors, publishers and guests in the main hall and a full programme of features and panels in the Little Theatre and Drawing Room. The Castle Lounge will host the annual exhibition with entries for the covetted Verne, Brunel, Pugin, Rosetti and Ruskin awards. Also on Saturday the Bazaar Eclectica will be opening its doors in the Castle Prison.

Special guests for Saturday include the inimitable Wilf Lunn, creative genius and boater wearer extraordinaire. A Doctor Who theme for the Exhibition Hall will have a cracking photo op and a chance to meet the highly entertaining Fraser Hines. Of course the Asylum wouldn't be the Assylum without the entertaining presence of world reknowned author and raconteur Robert Rankin.

Saturday night and the Asylum is turned over to the Third Annual Empire Ball. (300 tickets) A change in style for 2011 with the first half for dancing to recorded music and a buffet meal. Guest acts and Sunday Driver will take the stage before more dancing until late.

Professor Elemental will be joining you all once again too. A change of style at our second venue on Saturday night with "Putting the Punk in Steampunk" (250 tickets) hosted by The Men Who Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing plus support.

Sunday morning and the Asylum and Bazaar Eclectica open their doors for more trading, exhibiting, panels and workshops until the closing and awards ceremony at 4m.

Tickets are now on sale and selling incredibly quickly through our automated portal. There is a classic Asylum pass which grants access to the full day programme and exhibits, the Empire Ball and Friday Night at the Asylum. All features will also be available for purchase seperately too allowing you the opportunity to prearrange the festival you wish to attend.

Organisers are looking at possibly staging other fringe events and features during the course of the weekend. They are hoping to have a Siege of Peking dinner on Sunday night as well as a Dead Dog Party. Details will be posted as soon as they are fixed.
Keep an eye on the main web site!

Please note: We are not looking for street performance etc as part of this event. We would like to consider applications from static exhibits e.g. steam engines, organs, period vehicles etc.

Why stay in a Hotel in Lincoln

I still find it difficult to understand why families or groups of people choose to stay in a hotel in Lincoln when Lincoln Town Houses provide so much more accommodation at affordable rates!
For example, Spring Hill Town House! It is located on Hungate, just at the base of Michaelgate, close to Lincoln Cathedral & Lincoln Castle.
There are 4 large bedrooms, 2 with en-suite facilities. Guests can enjoy a large open plan kitchen diner with separate utility and cloakroom on the ground level.
There is a stunning living room on the top floor with plenty of room for 8 people to sit and enjoy each others company.
Just as Hotels in Lincoln provide quality bedding and towels, we do too. Including aromatherapy based toiletries.
We may not be a Bed and Breakfast, but we do provide all our guests with a Welcome Basket which provides fresh milk, bread, butter, coffee, jam, other beverages, sugar and of course a bottle of wine!!
It is common knowledge that Lincoln's City Hotels are limited with parking! All our properties offer free parking. Another bonus!
But most of all we offer great value with all our 4 Gold Star rated houses.
Spring Hill Town House is just £26.25 per person per night when 8 of you share for 3 nights!!
A weekend break for 8 people is just £32.50 per person per night.
If anyone would like to contact me to ask any questions, please do not hesitate!
My office number is 01522 530274 or mobile 07795477780
